"Les Fables de Lafontaine: Le Renard & Le Corbeau." Bonbon Tin, 1930

Item — Box: CFC Cans and Tins Box 4
Identifier: CFC2018.0147.1
Abstract

The fox already has the crow's cheese in his mouth on the cover of this bonbon tin. The cover represents an expanded version of a circular card I have, also from Surfins. It is on display with two other Surfin cards; click here to see it. About half an inch is cut from the circumference of this illustration to make that one. This tin is in fair to good condition.

The Grasshopper and the Ant Cookie Tin, 1990

Item — Box: CFC Cans and Tins Box 1
Identifier: CFC2018.0147.3
Abstract

Bright-colored illustration of the kitchen of the ant, complete with a full text of La Fontaine's fable. The presence of "Fables de la Fontaine" on the sides suggests that there may be a series of cookie tins based on various fables. The colors are excellent, and the price was right!

On the large cover here the large hen and her golden eggs predominate in the upper left, but we also see the dead hen and frustrated owner in the lower right corner. The image is again signed by H. Sainton or something similar. Now the big question is: How many of these La Fontaine cookie tins are there in the series?
